Since marginality is, after all, about people, it makes sense to examine the marginality of each of the main characters. Two of the main characters, Wakka and Lulu, fit in well with the mainstream cultures of Spira, and apart from the fact that they are Guardians, they are not really marginal. Each of the other main characters, however, portrays a different type of marginality that reflects on the origins, difficulties, and types of marginality in Japanese culture.
