Randland Cultures

These cultures are currently known in Randland (first order of business as Aes Sedai is to find another name to call this place!) Listed in alphabetical order. Taken from the Wheel of Time Concordance.

The Aiel Waste -- The Aiel, a "fierce and hardy" people, have warrior societies and Wise Ones who can often channel.

Amadicia -- Home of Amadicians, and also stronghold of Whitecloaks. Women who can channel are outlawed there.

Almoth Plain -- Although not really a country, Almoth Plain and Toman Head are home to many farmers and merchants in Falme.

Altara -- Altarans are barely unified under the Throne of Winds. Altarans, especially Ebou Dari, are said to be touchy and often duel; therefore they are usually polite.

Andor -- Andorans are often considered prim, though straightforward and not fond of manipulation.

Arad Doman -- Domani women are often considered "forward," and some are experts at flirtation.

Arafel -- Some say Arafellins have strange ideas about honor and death.

Cairhien -- Cairhienen are said to be reserved, until their restraint breaks, when they become surprisingly bold. Although the commoners are considered "uncouth," the nobles are very formal.

Ghealdan -- Small towns and farms line the river, making up the main part of this region.

Illian -- Illianers often fear or despise Aes Sedai, and many are traders or shippers of goods.

Kandor -- Kandori are a cultured people and merchanting is a common business among them

Mayene -- Mayener nobles are trained in Daes Dae'mar, and often also in unarmed combat. They are considered an outspoken people.

Murandy -- Murandian nobles often squabble, and assassinations are not uncommon.

Saldea -- Trolloc raids are frequent in Saldaea. Saldean nobles live a mixed life of danger and culture.

Seanchan -- The Seanchan have a caste system, but it is possible to work one's way up. Both men and women join the Seanchan army. The government is rather strict and may severly punish people for refusing to answer questions.

Sea Folk Islands -- Outsiders see the Sea Folk as a touchy, mysterious people. Atha'an Miere Men and women rarely part from their ships.

Shara -- The Aiel say Sharans are liars and tricky traders. They trade a lot of silk.

Shienar -- Shienarans are an accepting people, used to having to adjust at a moment's notice to new Trolloc raids in the Borderlands. They have almost no crime in their cities, and love ceremony.

Tarabon -- Daes Dae'mar is common between Taraboners and Domani. Taraboners are often cautious, especially in Tanchico, which has a bad reputation as a den of smugglers and thieves.

Tar Valon -- There are few thieves in Tar Valon because of the strong Aes Sedai rule there. It is the wealthiest city in the world, as a center of trade.

Tear -- The Tairen High Lords are known to be cruel schemers and players of the Great Game of Houses. There are often different standards for the upper and lower classes.

Tuatha'an -- The Tinkers have no permament home; instead, they roam in bands of wagons. Although many see them as thieves, they are really a relaxed and peaceful people. abhorring violence of any sort.
