Jaimyn Porall discovered that she could channel at the age of sixteen, when the band of Tuatha'an to which she and her family belonged was passing through the Aiel Waste, bound to mysterious Shara. The wagons had traversed the Niamh Passes two days previously, but on the second night - just as the singing and dancing had began - they were attacked by Shadowspawn ranging below the Blight. Jaimyn had hidden with her younger brothers and sister on the roof of their parents' caravan, watching as the people were slaughtered without resistance and the caravan set fire to. As the flames grew and the children's screams became louder, a terrified Jaimyn suddenly broke her way through to an unknown resource: the One Power. Lightening struck the Trollocs one by one, burning them to a crisp but also drawing the attention of the accompanying Myrddraal, who advanced upon their hiding-place. At that point, the roof of the burning wagon gave way, Jaimyn and her siblings seeming to fall to their deaths below.
Instead though, they landed in soft grass, where they fell into a confused sleep. Upon waking, they discovered themselves in a large Ogier bed - somehow they had been transported just outside a stedding in the Mountains of Mist which the caravan had visited several months before. The Council of Elders became convinced that this had been achieved through the use of saidar, with Jaimyn its unconcious but powerful wielder, and so a few days later the young Tuatha'an were escorted to Jehannah, the capital of Ghealdan, where they might meet the Aes Sedai adviser to the country's ruler. On leaving the stedding, Jaimyn felt as though something had been restored to her, but with this came the realisation that if she could harm in such a manner once she could do so again. In accordance with the Way of the Leaf then, she vowed never to do violence to any creature through use of the One Power again, and to learn to control this ability which had both saved and changed her life so drastically.
In the White Tower - and later in Salidar - Jaimyn threw herself into her studies, despite being completely unused to the discipline required by the Mistress of Novices and her teachers, who labelled her a wilder. She was also discovered to be blocked, unable to access the full extent of her power, until the day she healed a bird's wing using saidar and realised that it could be used for good as well as evil. When her brothers and sister left Tar Valon to join a passing group of Tuatha'an, she was sorely tempted to run away, but was determined to fulfill her vow. Jaimyn's happiest day came two years later when she became Accepted, and three further years raised her to the shawl, a full member of the Gray Ajah. Since then, Jaimyn has dedicated herself to resolving all manner of disputes, large and small, wherever they may be, believing this to best serve her purpose of bringing harmony without recourse to violence. In this way she has become skillful in Daes Dae'mar, often weaving words with a complexity rivalling that of the most complicated weaves of saidar, an ability which has often proved useful in difficult situations. This has also led her to bond no Warder, which she feels would conflict with her vow. She can generally be found travelling with Tuatha'an, always wearing the bright greens, reds and yellows so favoured by that people - sometimes to the despair of her Gray sisters - and rarely settles for more than a few days. Her greatest ambition is to tame a Wolfbrother.
