Jerand is a tall, darkhaired man, once handsome but now marred with blotches of decay.
His kind nature is often unseen behind his hard eyes and the scar tissue that covers about one tenth of his body. The left sid of his face looks bruised and is dried, clashing with the right side's attractiveness.
Jerand is further hindered by sudden twistings of his face, sudden expressions of anger or maniacal sneers.
These handicaps drove him into solitude but also strengthened him. Driven into lonliness by frightened children and horrified women, he learned stealth comparable to an Aeilman. He also became a lethal Mayene hand-to-hand combatant. If left no alternative but to fight, he is ruthless and lightning-quick.
Jerand's good nature draws him to other good people, but his weaknesses isolate him. He deals with this by hiding in the shadows and working to protect people he likes or pities, often without their knowing.
He often takes extreme risks for those he cares about. Strangely, at several times it seemed he or one of his "friends" would surely have died strange things have happened to save them.
Jerand is bound to become a warder by a promise he refuses to talk about even with those who know him.
He has a great affinity for animals, since they sense his kind nature. Jerand usually carries only a plain sword that was given to him by one of his few friends and a small backpack. He wears woodsman clothes of gray and green.
