Leanna was born into a noble house in Seanchan. She was tested at fourteen and taken away to become sul'dam. During her first year of training, she found out that one of the damane was her sister Tania, ten years older, who her parents told her had died when she was young. After a few months, Leanna managed to free her sister and the two fled on the first ship out, hoping to reach Tar Valon. During the long journey, Tania taught Leanna to channel.
While trying to get to Tar Valon, the sisters were attacked by bandits. Tania channeled to drive them away, but her channeling was seen by two arriving Whitecloaks. In the fight that ensued, Tania was killed. Leanna was rescued by the arrival of a Green Aes Sedai with her two Warders.
The Green sister, Sarava Daronen, took Leanna to the White Tower to be trained as Aes Sedai. After two years as a novice and two as Accepted, Leanna was raised to the Green Ajah at age nineteen. She is probably the most powerful of the Aes Sedai who did not have the gift inborn, and not far behind those who did. Her main skills are in Fire, Air and Spirit.
Leanna is of medium height, slender, and very beautiful, with dusky skin and night-dark hair reaching to her waist. Her eyes are dark and seem haunted with eternal sadness. The Warders and other men in the Tower stare every time she passes, but she doesn't seem to notice, or, if she does, care. She has hardly any friends and spends much of her time walking alone in the forest. On one wrist she wears a silver bracelet of strange design. Her usual clothes are of white silk with a black cloak, and she hardly ever wears colours. She has no Warder - although there are no shortage of willing candidates - and her Green sisters are afraid that with no Warder and no cause in life, Leanna will simply give up her will to live.
